My name is Anwyn Williams and I'm a singer/songwriter born and raised in a little town in Warwickshire called Leamington Spa, I'm currently studying at Nottingham Trent University for a degree in Media and Popular Culture and while living in the wonderfully musical city that is Nottingham I've become very involved with the acoustic music scene.
Last week, from Sunday 17th February to Friday 22nd, I joined forces with 4 other talented musicians and toured around the North and the Midlands. We started at Fresh up in Macclesfield and made our way to Northern Monkey in Leeds, Basement in York, Redhouse in Sheffield, Guitar Bar in Nottingham and ended the week in Matlock at The Boat Inn.
Throughout the week I had the pleasure of the company of the fantastic talents that are Beth McCarthy, Eve Rowlands, Dougie Francis and Simon Roe, as well as the man with the plan and the genius behind the tour, Neil Atkinson. I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of them for making the week so special and memorable, and a special thanks to Neil for driving me to all the venues and putting so much work into making this happen!
Each night, one of us had the opportunity to perform a headline slot and it was great to see all the other musicians come into their own as they performed to a home crowd! My night was at the Guitar Bar in Nottingham where I took advantage of my local musical contacts and managed to rope two thirds of folk band In The North Wood into performing one of my newest original songs, The Castle and the Kingdom, with me (a huge thanks is owed to Calum Hems and Mitch Perry for managing to throw that all together with me!).
All in all, it was a brilliant week. I'm definitely on a post tour comedown (going cold turkey ain't easy guys!) and missing all the fun, but I have met some wonderful people through doing this tour and drawn so much from it personally that I can't wait to get back to my next lot of gigs, starting Tuesday at The Graduate in Derby.
Thank you to all the venues who put us on and everyone who came along to support us throughout the week, you were all amazing and it was appreciated more than you know!
